Of Chabbits; Rhickens and Rabies!
Jan. 8th, 2007 10:17 pmI was out shopping for groceries today, with the French Mauritian house mate. As I was grabbing the cat food, he noticed biscuits that were labelled "rabbit/chicken" and asked how they made them.
I replied: "Why. They use Chabbits of course!"
He asked what a Chabbit was, so I dutifully explained the theory of genetic hybridisation. I didn't think he believed me but he did ask why it was called a Chabbit and not a Rhicken?!
I then explained that there were also Rhickens, but they were a different strain of hybrid and were very very dangerous and aggressive, which made them too much trouble to hunt down. I then added that they were where rabies originally came from and he asked what rabies was. I filled him in on the details, including the foaming at the mouth and the transmission via a bite. Then I explained that it was the way that Rhickens bred and that the foaming was the way the, now fertilised eggs, were spread once done with their host. I finished with, "Rabies was named that because it leads to 'Rhicken Babies' - so it's a kind of slang term."
Naturally, by this point, he was extremely dubious. Until, several hours later, he emerged from him room and exclaimed, "There is such a thing as Rabies!!"
Then I saw, the tiny seed germinating ... he was doubting his earlier doubts! :D
Evil truly is fun!
